The 2009 National Youth Conference on Tribology and Industrial Applications, organized by Tribology Institution of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society (CMES) and locally organized by Central South University and Xiangtan University was successfully held in Changsha from 8th May to 10th May. More than 200 domestic delegates from tribology and related fields have taken part in this conference. State Key Laboratory of Solid Lubrication in Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was one of the co-organizers.
As plenary speakers from LICP, Prof. Weimin Liu was invited to give a presentation on “High-performance Lubricating Grease and its Application in Important Industrial Fields”. Prof. Jianmin Chen gave a presentation on “New Development in the Research on Surface Engineering of Tribology”. Prof. Junyan Zhang reported their recent work on “Carbon Film with Fullerence-like Structure and its Tribological Property”. Dr. Liping Wang and 15 young post-graduates have participated in the oral presentation and poster session of this conference.
The theme of the conference is about the theory of tribology, the new development of basic research on tribology, the applications of tribology in industry and its solutions. The key topic of the reports involve nano-tribology, surface engineering and friction and wear, tribology-related testing, high performance lubricating technology and lubricating material, industrial tribology, biology and bionic tribology and so on. More than 100 papers were collected during the conference. These papers were an embodiment of the research practice and independent technical innovation of the young researchers and students engaging in tribology and related areas. They demonstrated scientific and technical personnel’s exploration of the new theory, new technology and new equipment in the tribology field and the current academic level of the young experts on tribology in China.
