On 11th May 2009, the signing ceremony and the nameplate unveiling ceremony of the Joint Lab of Tribology in Automobiles established by Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics of Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Technological Center of China FAW Group Corporation were held in Lanzhou. As the representatives of the two sides, Director of LICP, Weimin Liu, and Director of the Technological Center of FAW Group, Jun Li signed the “Articles of the Joint Lab of Tribology in Automobiles”. Academician of CAS and Director of the Academic Committee of LICP, Qunji Xue, and Director Jun Li together unveiled the nameplate of the lab.
Academician Qunji Xue briefly introduced the history, the achievements and current main research direction and research content of LICP to Jun Li. He pointed out that the cooperation between scientific research institutions and state-owned enterprises was in accordance with the policy which the state had advocated for years. It was also out of the development needs of related high technologies for the independent brand of the extraordinary large-scale state-owned enterprises. Moreover, the cooperation was the only way to the industrialization of scientific and technological achievements. Centering on the national and regional key technological problems and problems in engineering application and the development of automobile industry and making full use of the technological advantages and talents accumulated over a long period of time, the Institute should set the right goal, jointly tackle major difficulties with large-scale automobile enterprises and establish the independent scientific and technological innovation platform through the combination of learning with research and production.
Director Weimin Liu pointed out that the Technological Center of FAW Group possessed strong technological strength and advanced tests means of research and development in the aspects of vehicle technology, chassis, engines, auto parts, new technologies, new materials and so on. It was the national technological center with a large scale and strong core competence among the domestic automobile industry. LICP had carried out researches on the design, preparation and tribological properties of new lubricating and protective materials. It had its unique advantages in tribo-chemical mechanism, the protection principles and methods of material damage, high performance lubricating and protective materials and the technology of antifriction and antiwear of materials. The cooperation between the two sides would center on the key and common technological problems of automobile tribology. By giving full play to the respective advantages, two sides would carry out joint research on energy saving, emission reduction and the reliability of automobile engine and transmission system.
Director Jun Li pointed out that, in order to accommodate to the rapid development of automobile industry, both parties should make full use of the joint advantages in the aspects of scientific research, industrialization of achievements and technological innovation, strengthen the combination of learning, research with production, establish technological platform and raise the core competence. Centering on the core objective of improving the innovation ability and establishing the dominant position of large enterprises, the Joint Lab of Tribology in Automobiles would rationally allocate human resources, make full use of technological advantages, jointly study the application technology of tribology in automobiles, promote the development of China’s tribology in automobile, speed up the improving of the ability of independent innovation, and eventually improve the international competitiveness of China’s automobile industry.
Academician Qunji Xue would be the director of the academic committee of the Lab, Director Jun Li and Director Weimin Liu would be the co-directors, Prof. Junyan Zhang and Kejin Zhang would be the vice directors.
Vice-President of Lanzhou Branch of CAS, Shengrong Yang, and Minister of the Technological Center of FAW Group, Shanqiang Ying, Chief Inspector, Fei Ge, Director Changji Jin, Director of the Science and Technology Department of LICP, Bing Zhang and Office Director of LICP, Changchun Zhang, participated in the signing and nameplate unveiling ceremonies.
Representatives from the Technological Center of FAW Group then visited the exhibition room and State Key Laboratory of Solid Lubrication.
