The 8th national academic conference and 3rd youth forum on surface engineering were held from April 25 to April 27, 2010, in Beijing. More than 200 experts, scholars, entrepreneurs and technicians who are engaged in surface engineering have participated in the conference.

　  The conference was hosted by the Surface Engineering Institute of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society (CMES), organized by the National Defense Key Laboratory for Remanufacturing Technology of the Academy of Armored Forces Engineering of PLA. Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics (LICP), CAS, was one of the co-organizers.

　  Headed by Prof. XUE Qunji and Prof. CHEN Jianmin, LICP’s delegation consisting of over 20 research personnel and postgraduates, has attended the grand gathering.

　  On behalf of Prof. XUE Qunji and the project team, associate Prof. WANG Liping made the keynote lecture entitled "Application of Surface Engineering in High-tech Area”. Prof. CHEN Jianmin made the invited report entitled “Advances in Multi-environmental Super Lubricating Carbon Film”. Dr. LU Zhibin made the report entitled “Research on Super Lubricating Properties of Ag-doped Hydrogen Containing DLC” during the youth forum and the report was awarded “Excellent Thesis”.

　  During the conference, more than 200 papers were collected. The themes of the papers involve the basic theory in surface engineering, surface corrosion and protection, surface friction and wear and lubrication, failure analysis in surface engineering and its detection techniques, new surface coatings and techniques, typical application of surface engineering, etc.
