During the National Science and Technology Week, in response to the call of the CAS National Public Science Day, Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics (LICP), CAS, opened its State Key Laboratory of Solid Lubrication and State Key Laboratory of Oxo Synthesis and Selective Oxidation to the public. Carried out under the theme of “Building an Innovative Country”, the activity aims to publicize the latest scientific research achievements, innovative thoughts and scientific spirit and to make the public more accessible to the research facilities and scientists of the Institute.

　  More than 300 students and teachers from Gansu Economic and Trade College, Gansu Health School and Kangle No.2 Middle School of the Linxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture visited the Institute on May 15. They were acquainted with the development, scientific research platforms, human resources building, cultivation of postgraduates and sci-tech innovation of the Institute. Through researchers’ patient explanation and by observing the large apparatus, students got a general idea of the scientific research.

　  Through the activity, students not only learned more about science but their interest in science was aroused as well.

　  In recent years, by carrying out the activities of “Science and Technology Week” and “National Public Science Day”, LICP has displayed its achievements to the public and publicized scientific knowledge, scientific spirit and scientific approaches. The holding of such activities has played an important role in the popularization of scientific knowledge and improving citizens’ scientific literacy.
