Prof. Vladimir V. Tsukruk

Prof. Vladimir V. Tsukruk, Fellow of the American Physical Society, gave a lecture entitled “Learning from Nature: interrogating snakes, fish and spiders for better sensing ”at the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics (LICP) of the CAS on October 26, 2010.

In his report, Prof. Vladimir V. Tsukruk introduced the latest research progress in bio-hybrid materials and biosensors. He especially explained the development of biosensors highly sensitive to temperature detection and fluid detection based on the research into the principles of haptic systems of snakes, fish and spiders.

Prof. Vladimir V. Tsukruk is now at the School of Materials Science and Engineering of the Georgia Institute of Technology. He is ranked within top 1% highly cited researchers both in chemistry and materials with about 7000 citations. His research interests include nanosturctured surfaces/interfaces, molecular assembly and nano- and bioinspired materials. He has co-authored 300+ refereed articles in archival journals, 20+ invited reviews and one book, co-edited three volumes, and holds four patents. He serves on the editorial advisory boards of Langmuir, ACS Appl. Mater & Interfaces, Polymer, Res. Lett. Mater. Sci., and Curr. Chem. Biology.

Prof. Vladimir V. Tsukruk is invited by the State Key Laboratory of Solid Lubrication of the LICP to visit the Institute.
