The Device (LU Gongxuan et al.)

The treatment of flammable and explosive high-sulfur organic waste gas has been a challenge faced by chemical enterprises.Under certain circumstances, the concentration of the waste gas discharged can fluctuate from a few ten thousandths to ten percent.Conventionally, the waste gas is diluted to the explosion limit and then disposed through heat accumulating-type air combustion. However, when the concentration and flow fluctuate seriously at the same time, the device can not operate stably. In addition, the stenchy waste gas containing sulfur is harmful to the combustion catalyst used in the traditional catalytic process, which will result in the deactivation of catalysts in a short period of time. And the frequent replacing of catalysts will raise the cost.

In view of this, the National Engineering Research Center of Fine Petrochemical Intermediates of the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics (LICP) of the CAS has developed a device and a kind of catalyst especially for this waste gas treatment for an enterprise in Inner Mongolia Province.

With the device and catalyst, the flammable and explosive high-sulfur organic waste gas has undergone partial incineration, catalytic oxidation, alkali washing and purification. The waste gas treated in this way can meet the state emission standard. Since its operation in July, the device has been running continuously over 3000 hours.

The device covers an area of 40m2 and its power consumption is about 30kw/h under full load.

The establishment and operation of the device has prevented the enterprise from polluting the surrounding environment by discharging waste gas, which ensures the enterprise’s normal production.

The work is done in cooperation with Yixing Shengkang Environmental Protection Corporation Ltd..
