Prof. LIU Weimin, director of the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics (LICP) of the CAS, was awarded the title of National Outstanding Scientific Worker on Dec. 6 by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST).

Prof. LIU is also the director of the State Key Laboratory of Solid Lubrication and supervisor of PhD candidates. He has long been engaged in the research on new lubricating materials and made certain achievements in the components, structure design, preparation of materials, relationship between structure and performance of materials, etc.

He has published over 400 papers all included in the database of SCI or EI and made 16 invited reports. In addition he holds over 50 Chinese patents and 1 American patent. He has won several national, ministerial and provincial level awards. In 1998 he won the support of National Outstanding Youth Foundation of China.
