The 15th National Catalysis Conference was held in Guangzhou from Nov. 29 to Dec.2. About 1500 delegates from over 200 institutions of higher education and research institutes attended the Conference. The theme of the Conference was “Catalytic Science and Technology Under Low-carbon Economy”.

Prof. XIA Chungu, vice director of the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics (LICP) of the CAS and director of the State Key Laboratory for Oxo Synthesis and Selective Oxidation, was invited to make a report entitled “Catalytic Reaction of Functionalized Ionic Liquids (ILs): From Basic Research to Application”. In his report, Prof. XIA introduced the recent progress made in the research on ILs, the design, preparation of functionalized ILs, research on the properties of ILs, successful application of ILs in the preparation of oxygen-containing chemicals from ethylene glycol and methanol, etc.

The Conference was by hosted the Catalysis Committee of the Chinese Chemical Society (CCS) and organized by the South China University of Technology.
