Professor GAO Wenyuan, vice-dean of the School of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology, Tianjin University, visited the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, on December 29. During his stay, he delivered a lecture entitled Modern research on the resources of Chinese herbal medicine.

In his report, Prof. GAO introduced his group’s work in chemical affinity among medicinal plants, culture of medicinal plants, space flights of medicinal plants, investigation of resources for Chinese patent medicine, development of medicinal plant resources, etc, in recent years

Prof. GAO graduated from the Jilin Agricultural University in 1989. In 1994 he received his doctoral degree in pharmacognosy from the Peking Union Medical College, Chinese Academy of Medicinal Sciences. He did his post-doctoral research in the Chungbuk National University (CBNU) from 1998 to 2000. He then worked for the Hong Kong Institute of Biotechnology from 2000 to 2001. Since 2002 he has joined the Tianjin University. His main research interests include Chinese medicinal plant resources and material base of the effect of Chinese medicinal plants. He has published more than 160 papers and authored 3 works. He is also the editorial board of Chinese Traditional and Herbal Drugs, China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica and Asian Journal of Traditional Medicines.

Prof. GAO was invited by the CAS Key Laboratory of Chemistry of Northwestern Plant Resources to visit the LICP.
