The research group headed by Professor DI Duolong at the Key Laboratory of Chemistry of Northwestern Plant Resources of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) at the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics (LICP) has developed a method to extract highly purified polypeptides from deer blood.

China is one of the largest countries in deer breeding and Gansu province has the largest red deer breeding base in northwest part of China. The main functional components in deer blood are polypeptides which can lower blood pressure, strengthen immune system and have the function of anti-fatigue.

The researchers have applied enzymatic hydrolysis method and tandem technology for separation and purification with porous materials as adsorbents  for the whole process. With the technique, they have extracted highly purified and bio-active polypeptides from deer blood. The production rate is higher than 80% and the purification rate is between 65% and 80%The newly developed method is low in cost and production process is environmental-friendly.

Moreover, with the technique, the researchers have developed a product, namely deer blood polypeptides effervescent tablets.
