In order to promote the cross-strait academic exchange in the field of catalysis and raise the S&T level of catalysis science of the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, colleagues from two sides of the Strait have deliberated and initiated the Cross-strait Academic Conference on Catalysis since the later period of the 20th century and early stage of the 21st century. 7 cross-strait academic conferences on catalysis have already been successfully held in Taiwan Feng Chia University (2000), Fudan University (2001), Taiwan University (2002), Institute of Coal Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (2004), Yishou University, National University of Kaohsiung (2005), Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (2006), Institute of Atomic and Molecular Sciences Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan and National Dong Hwa University (2007). These conferences have received great attention and warm response from the academic circles of the two sides and achieved good results academically.

During the 7th Cross-strait Academic Conference on Catalysis, the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was approved to host the 8th Conference and the Conference will be held in August 2009 in Lanzhou.
