Abstract: The premicellization of C12-2-En-C12×2Br in an aqueous solution has been investigated by the steady state fluorescence method using 1-Pyrenebutyric acid (PBA) as the probe. The critical premicelle concentrations (cpc) at 30oC were 0.0295(n=1), 0.0373 (n=2) and 0.0501 (n=3) mmol/L, respectively. Compared with the traditional method (i.e., conductivity method), the steady state fluorescence method is more sensitive to illustrates the premicellar behavior of gemini surfactants, and it is a suitable method for the determination of critical premicelle concentrations of gemini surfactants.
