Abstract: Ionic liquids (ILs) exhibit unique advantages in biocatalysis and biotransformations which have attracted much attention from researchers. As a kind of biocatalytic reaction medium, the ILs not only enhanced the activation and stabilization of enzyme, but also improved the yield and selectivity. In this paper, the physiochemical properties of ILs were outlined, the characteristics of ILs as biocatalytic reaction medium were reviewed. Moreover, the utilization of ILs in biocatalytic and biotransform reactions catalysed by protease, lipase and oxidordeuctase was discussed respectively. At last, the futures of biocatalytic reactions in ILs were prospected.
Key words: Ionic liquids; reaction medium; biocatalysis ; enzyme
