Abstract: The catalytic activity of catalysts such as Pt/C 、 Pd/C 、 Ru/C、 Rh/C and Raney Ni were compared in the catalytic hydrogenation of hydroquinone, as well as the supports such as activated carbon, SiO2,  Al-MCM - 41,  ZSM-5,  MgO, TiO2 were discussed in the catalytic hydrogenation of hydroquinone. The results showed that the Ru/C catalyst presented the highest activity and selectivity. The influences of reaction conditions such as temperature, hydrogen pressure, solvent and reaction time on the conversion of hydroquinone and the selectivity of 1, 4-cyclohexanediol were studied by using Ru/C as the catalyst. The suitable conditions were as follows: the mole ratio of hydroquinone and catalyst: 367∶1, the reaction temperature: 150 ℃, the hydrogen pressure: 5 MPa, solvent was ethanol, the reaction time was 2 h. The conversion of hydroquinone reached 98.8% and the selectivity of 1, 4-cyclohexanediol achieved 77.7% under the above optimum conditions. The reaction pathways were also analyzed according to the variation of products over time curve.
