Abstract: A series of VOSO4/ACO (VO/ACO) catalysts were prepared by impregnation with oxygenated activated carbon (ACO) as support. The composition and structure of the prepared catalysts were characterized by FT-IR, XRD, BET and ICP. The catalytic effect of VO/ACO on the oxidation of ethyl lactate with molecular oxygen was investigated under atmospheric pressure. The results showed that modified activated carbon was an efficient support for catalysts containing VO2+. A VO-3/ACO can be obtained by impregnation in aqueous VOSO4 (pH=3), which provided 95.2 % selectivity for ethyl pyruvate and complete conversion of ethyl lactate in dichloroethane (DCE) under the conditions of 80 ℃ and atmospheric pressure after running the reaction for 18 h . The catalyst could be repeatedly used for three times without remarkable loss of its reactivity. 
