Abstract: Ni/SiO2 and Ni/TiO2-SiO2 catalysts were prepared by impregnation of SiO2 and TiO2-SiO2 aerogel supports, both of which were prepared by Sol-Gel method combined with supercritical fluid drying. The catalysts were characterized by BET, H2-TPR, XRD, TEM, FT-IR techniques etc. and tested with hydrogenation of maleic anhydride(MA) to γ-butyrolactone(GBL).The results indicated that the formation of Ti-O-Si in Ni/TiO2-SiO2 strengthened interaction between NiO and support, raised the dispersion threshold of NiO on support surface, and then obtained small Ni0 activity species, which were responsible for the highest performance in catalytic hydrogenation. A reaction temperature of 240 ℃ pressure of 5.0 MPa and time of 6h were afforded, Ni/TiO2-SiO2 catalyst was shown 100% conversion of MA and 94.7% selectivity of GBL .
