Abstract: In this study we prepared amorphous RuB nano-catalyst stabilized by poly ethylene glycol(PEG). The catalyst was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and atomic emission spectroscopy (AES). The results showed that RuB nanoparticles were highly dispersed and their average particle diameter was about 2.4 nm. The effect of degree of polymerization, solvents, the amount of catalysts, the ratio of ruthenium to boron, pressure of hydrogen on the reaction and additive was investigated. The catalyst shows the high activity and good selectivity for the hydrogenation of quinoline to 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline. When water was used as solvent, the molar ratio of quinoline/Ru was 200:1, hydrogen pressure 3 MPa, and reaction temperature 90 ℃, the conversion of quinoline was up to 98.4% and the selectivity to 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline was over 99%.
