Catalytic monoepoxidation of 1,3-butadiene over Manganese Complex Catalysts

Abstract: N,N'-dimethyl-N,N'-bis(2-pyridylmethyl)ethane-1,2-diamine (mep)and the corresponding mep-MnIIOTf2 complex was synthesized and this Manganese complex was applied to the monoepoxidation of 1,3-butadiene. The results demonstrate that the direct liquid-phase epoxidation of 1,3-butadiene with dilute hydrogen peroxide in the presence of Manganese Complex under mild conditions can produce EPB with high activity and selectivity. The mild reaction conditions and the usage of aqueous H2O2 as the oxidant provide a convenient and environmentally benign method for the preparation of EPB and the corresponding downstream products.
