Abstract: Energy crisis is a huge challenge that people will be faced with, the exploitation of biological energy, such as carbohydrate, has become a hot point in the present world. Glucose, fructose and xylose, as the simplest carbohydrates, have been the ideal materials for the preparation of important platform chemicals. This paper introduces the advance in the choice of catalysts and dehydration mechanism of monosaccharide; also, some suggestions on future research and development are presented.

Key words: glucose; fructose; xylose; platform chemicals
