Abstract: As an important chemical raw materials, 1,3-propanediol has been paid ever increasing attention, and much effort has been made. In addition to classical preparation methods such as hydration of acrolein, hydroformylation of ethylene oxide to 3-hydroxypropanal followed by hydrogenation, and the fermentation of polyol by microbial to 1,3-propanediol, hydrogenation of methyl 3-hydroxypropionate and selective hydrogenolysis of glycerol to 1,3-propanediol as novel alternative routes has been focus. In this paper, the present status and research advances on preparation of 1,3-propanediol were reviewed. Moreover, the development trends and future were also discussed based on the previous work.
