Abstract: CuO-Bi2O3/SiO2-MgO catalysts were prepared by impregnation, deposition precipitation and co-precipitation methods for the ethynylation of formaldehyde to 1,4-butynediol. The obtained catalysts were characterized by N2 physisorption, TEM, XRD, H2-TPR, and FT-IR. It was found that there were obvious differences in reaction performance due to different reduction property and dispersion of CuO among the catalysts prepared by different methods. The CuO-Bi2O3/SiO2-MgO catalyst prepared by co-precipitation methods have better reduction property and higher CuO dispersion. So CuO can be easily transformed to the alkyne copper complex in the process of activiation and the catalysts show the best catalytic acitivity and selectivity.
