Abstract: The catalytic dehydration of ethanol to ethylene has been investigated over Fe, Co, Ni ion exchanged modified HZSM-5 catalysts at the low temperature, and Ni-HZSM-5 exhibited the best conversion and selectivity (99.3% and 97.7%, respectively) at 260℃. Characterizations revealed that the improved catalytic performance of Ni-HZSM-5 could be attributed to the decrease of the strong acid sites and increase of weak acid sites by the modification with Ni. The effects of operation parameters on dehydration of ethanol to ethylene over Ni modified HZSM-5, such as reaction temperature, weight hourly space velocity and concentration of ethanol have also been investigated.
Key words: ethanol; ethylene; HZSM-5; catalytic dehydration
