Abstract:: As an effective method for the formation of C-C double bond, olefin metathesis has been widely used in the organic and polymer chemistry. The development of new and efficient catalysts for this reaction has become to be the key point to the utility of this reaction. In particular, because of the high reactivity, mild reaction condition, remarkable tolerance toward oxygen, water and functional groups, the Grubbs catalyst has been used extensively in the olefin metathesis reaction and attracts the attention of more and more chemists. Herein, we introduce the development and the synthesis method of Grubbs catalysts. Besides, the advantage and disadvantage of different synthesis methods as well as the problem of Grubbs catalysts were also analyzed in this paper.
