Abstract :Floor slipperiness is a critical issue in slip and fall incidents. Most of the previous studies on slipperiness assessments were conducted in laboratories. Field measurements to investigate floor slipperiness under dry and wet floor conditions in a college campus were carried out using a slip resistance tester for ground floor. The influences of immersion time in water,different directions in measurement and mechanical abrasion were considered. The floor in a canteen was measured to illustrate the influence of different measurement locations on friction coefficient of floor,and the friction loss values were compared on the wet conditions. A regression analysis of all the data was performed to explore how static and dynamic COF values might correlate.
Key words: slip and fall incidents; friction coefficient; friction loss; floor surface; friction measurement;
