Abstract: A FeBSiNb metallic glass coating is prepared by using wires arc spraying. The effect of wear parameters, e.g. wear time, linear speed and loading, on the wear properties of the coating is studied. The microstructure of the coating is characterized by using SEM, EDAX and XRD. The mechanical properties of the coating are measured on a nano-indenter. The wear test of the coating is conducted on an MM200 wear tester. The results show that the coating has an amorphous structure. The coating is fully dense with a porosity of 1.4% and a high micro-hardness of 16.42 GPa. With increasing wear time, linear speed and loading, wear rates of the coating increase. The FeBSiNb metallic glass coating presents excellent wear resistance. The relative wear resistance of FeBSiNb metallic glass coating is about 6 times higher than that of the 3Cr13 coating under the same testing condition. The failure mechanism of FeBSiNb metallic glass coating is brittle fatigue and fracture.
