5th International Conference on Tribochemistry Held in Lanzhou
Date:17-09-2009 |

The 5th International Conference on Tribochemistry, co-organized by the State Key Laboratory of Solid Lubrication of Lanzhou Institute of Chemistry Physics, CAS, and the Department of Chemical Technology and Environmental Protection, University of Lodz, Poland, was held in Lanzhou from September, 14 and September, 17. More than 100 researchers and students from different countries and regions who are engaged in tribochemistry attended the grand gathering.

The Conference was co-chaired by Prof. Liu Weimin, director of LICP and the State Key Laboratory of Solid Lubrication and Prof. Stanislaw Plaza of the Department of Chemical Technology and Environmental Protection, University of Lodz. On behalf of the two sides, Prof. Liu and Dr. Piwonski delivered the opening remarks.

More than 70 papers were collected during the Conference, among which 25 were from LICP. Some famous specialists in tribology from Poland, Switzerland, America, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and the main land of China, gave 21 invited lectures and 12 oral talks. Prof. Xue Qunji, member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Prof. Zhang Junyan, Prof. Zhou Feng, Prof. Lv Jinjun and associate Prof. Wang Liping were invited to give presentations. In addition to the lectures, 36 posters were also displayed. The topics of the Conference covered a wide range of areas, including tribochemistry of lubricants and additives, surface, interface & nano tribochemistry, surface coating & tribology, wear of composite materials, etc. All these reflected the latest research achievements and the current research level of tribochemistry worldwide.

Prof. Liu warmly welcomed the delegates. He said that, the development of tribochemistry is of great significance to the improvement of machining, to the reduction of friction of mechanical parts (such as bearings and gearings), to the modernization of national defense and to national economic construction. In recent years, LICP has made certain achievements in the research on tribochemistry. Through holding such international conferences, LICP hoped to strengthen cooperation with researchers from different countries and regions and to enhance the development of tribochemistry.

Since its founding in 1987, the State Key Laboratory of Solid Lubrication has been entitled “Outstanding Laboratory” in the state evaluation of laboratories continuously for 4 times. It has made prominent achievements in scientific research, academic exchanges, training of talents and so on. Currently, the Laboratory strives to establish itself as the Laboratory with international influence to make greater contributions to national high-tech development and national economy.
