Introduction of the Center

Qingdao Resource Chemistry and New Materials Research Center of the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics (LICP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was founded in 2009. It is located in Laoshan District of Qingdao and covers an area of 113 mu.

The Center will carry out research on advanced lubricating materials, surface engineering techniques, separation and high value utilization of efficient components in plants, fine chemicals and process, environmental materials and pollutant management, clean energy and so on.

Major Research Areas:

Resource and energy: The primary goal of the research in this area is to establish new catalytic reaction system guided by the concept of atomic economy, develop environment-friendly catalytic materials and process, solve the key techniques in the non-petrol energy chemistry, provide theoretical basis and technical support for the clean and high efficient conversion of petroleum resources, mineral and biological resources. The research into the utilization of clean energy is to solve the technological problems in the utilization of solar and wind energy.

New materials: New materials and their preparation techniques are developed to optimize material properties and their application. The composition, structure and interface design theory and techniques of new multi-functional materials are studied; the surface chemistry, physical laws and laws of mechanical functions of materials during the preparation and service are researched to develop advanced lubricating and protecting materials, high-value nonferrous metal materials, biomaterials and biological environmental materials in the western part of China.

Ecology and health: The integration technology and methodology concerning the extraction, separation, analysis, structure identification, activity test of the functional components of natural resources are studied with the aim of the efficient utilization of biological and mineral resources in the western part of China. Key enzymes of the metabolism, functional genes, mechanism of the interaction between exogenous small molecules and biological macromolecules, and enzyme-catalyzed reactions are researched. The research on the development of natural medicines and functional products are also carried out.
