"Preparation and Application of Advanced High-temperature Lubricating and Anti-wear Materials" Project Won the Top Prize of the Gansu Provincial Technological Invention Award

   During the “2009 Gansu Sci-tech Award Presentation Ceremony” held by Gansu Provincial People's Government on April 19, the “Preparation and Application of Advanced High-temperature Lubricating and Anti-wear Materials” project, undertaken by the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics (LICP), CAS, won the top prize of the Gansu provincial technological invention award. Prof. XUE Qunji, project leader and member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, was given the award certificate by LU Hao, Secretary of the CPC Gansu Provincial Committee.

   The research on the preparation and application of advanced high temperature lubricating and anti-wear materials has been carried out for the purpose of the preparation of reliable and highly efficient high temperature lubricating and anti-wear materials with long service life for moving parts of mechanical equipment working under high temperature.

   The technologies of advanced high temperature lubricating and anti-wear thick coatings, technologies of high temperature lubricating and anti-wear bulk materials have been developed. Based on the technologies, high temperature lubricating and anti-wear products with international level have been successfully developed. Large scale industrial production and application of these products in high-tech fields have been carried out as well. 9 national invention patents concerning the related work have been applied and authorized.

   Fe-based high temperature self-lubricating and anti-wear alloy technology developed has been applied in the large scale production. As far as the technologies are concerned, the products have reached or even surpassed the similar products in the world. Nano-crystalline Fe3Al intermetallic compound-based high temperature sealing materials developed have already been successfully applied in the fuel supply system of key parts in diesel engines with high power.

   The work has been supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, National High-tech R&D Program of China, National Outstanding Youth Foundation and Main Direction Program of Knowledge Innovation of the CAS.

   Gansu Sci-tech Award Presentation Ceremony aims to praise and reward the sci-tech personnel who have made significant contributions to the economic and social development of Gansu province. It is reported that altogether 176 awards were granted in 2009, including 10 awards for natural sciences, 4 technological invention awards and 162 sci-tech progress awards.
