Prof. SHI Zhangjie of Peking University Visits LICP

Prof. SHI Zhangjie of the Peking University, visited the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics (LICP), CAS, on April 28 and gave a report entitled “Recent Advances on C-H Activation”.

Prof. SHI introduced in detail his research group’s recent advances on transitional metal catalyzed C-H activation and elucidated the tuning of the activity and selectivity of C-H activation reaction through varying the oxidants, acidity and basicity and other conditions in his report. He also shared with the audience his experience of supervising students and research.

Prof. SHI graduated from East China Normal University in 1996 and then studied under MA Shengming, member of the CAS, and received his doctoral degree from Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, CAS, in 2001. During this period, he was awarded Liuyongling Scholarship and President Scholarship of the CAS. Then he did postdoctoral research with Prof. Gregory Verdine’s group of the Harvard University and Prof. HE Chuan’s group of the University of Chicago.

Now Prof. SHI works in the College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering of the Peking University. His is mainly engaged in the research on the transitional metal catalyzed C-H activation and has made remarkable achievements.

Prof. SHI has published over 20 papers in world renowned journals in chemistry, such as J. Am. Chem. Soc. and Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. since returning China from abroad in 2004. In 2006 he was awarded Synlett/Synthesis Journal Award, in 2007 Distinguished Young Chemist Award of Chinese Chemical Society,in 2008 CAPA (Chinese-American Chemistry Professors Association) Distinguished Professor and CCS-John Wiley Excellent Chemistry Award. He won the support of the National Outstanding Youth Foundation of China and conferred the title of New Star of Science and Technologies of Beijing in 2009.

Prof. SHI was invited by the Sate Key Laboratory for Oxo Synthesis and Selective Oxidation.
