On 16th May more than 300 teachers and students from Lanzhou University, Lanzhou University of Finance and Economics and Lanzhou No. 1 Middle School, and part of the parents of the students visited the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. With the coming of the nationwide science popularization week in 2009, this was one of the serial activities of science popularization carried out by the LICP with the guideline of 'pushing forward independent innovation and promoting harmonious development'. The director of LICP, Prof. Liu Weimin, introduced the development, talent team, research departments, scientific and technological innovations, training and cultivation of post graduates of the Institute, and the role the Institute played in the project--'Space Trial of the Solid Lubricating Materials Used in the Application System of Shenzhou-7 Spaceship' to the visitors. He also conveyed his expectations to the students, hoping that they would love science, work hard, plan for the future and make their due contributions to the building of an innovative country and the revitalization of China. The teachers and students thanked the LICP for giving them the chance to visit the Institute. Then they visited the exhibition room, State Key Laboratory for Oxo Synthesis and Selective Oxidation and State Key Laboratory of Solid Lubrication. During the visit, through the researchers' patient explanation and vivid demonstration, the students had a better understanding of the research work carried out by the Institute and showed great interest in it. They raised many questions to the scientists and some took notes while listening. They were moved by the dedicating spirit and meticulous attitude of the scientists and staff and were gasped with admiration at the outstanding achievements the LICP has made.
