Researchers from Southwest University Deliver Lectures at LICP

Professor MA Xuebing and associate Professor GONG Chengbin from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Southwest University visited the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics (LICP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) on April 17. During their visit, they each delivered a lecture introducing their recent work.

In his lecture titled Zirconium Phosphonate: A Support in the Field of Asymmetric Catalysis, Prof. MA introduced the evolution from noncoverable to coverable catalysts, status quo of the research on zirconium phosphonate, his group’s work on the application of zirconium phosphonate in asymmetric catalysis, including its application in epoxidation, addition of diethylzine to benzaldehyde, adol addition and homogenization of inorganic-supported catalysts. He also shared their work on functionalized and pillared zirconium phosphonate.

The title of associate Prof. GONG Chengbin’s lecture was Preparation of Photo-Responsive Intelligent Materials by Molecular Imprinting Technique. The lecture introduced the general condition of molecular imprint polymers (MIPs), his group’s work on optical intelligent molecular imprint materials based on azobenzene, synthesis of optical intelligent MIPs and photochromic materials, etc

Prof. XUE and associate Prof. GONG were invited by the State Key Laboratory for Oxo Synthesis and Selective Oxidation.

Introduction to lecturers:

Prof. MA received his bachelor’s degree from Southwest Normal University (now named Southwest University) in 1991 and master’s degree from Southwest Agricultural University (now named Southwest University) 1994 respectively. In 2008 he received his doctor’s degree from Sichuan University. His research interests include homogenization and asymmetric catalysis of organic/inorganic materials supported chiral catalysts, research on production process and industrialization of synthetic perfume and organic pharmaceutical intermediates. He has published more than 40 papers, of which about 20 were included in the SCI database.

Associate Prof. GONG received his bachelor’s and master’s degree from Southwest Normal University in 1996 and 1999 respectively. He received his doctor’s degree from City University of Hong Kong in 2008. His research interests include organic functional materials. He has published more than 20 papers in Advanced functional materials, Chemistry of materials and Journal of materials chemistry, of which around 10 were included in the SCI database.
