Prof. JIAO Haijun from Institute of Coal Chemistry at LICP

Prof. JIAO Haijun

Prof. JIAO Haijun from the Institute of Coal Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) visited the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics (LICP) of the CAS on September 1. During his visit, Prof. JIAO delivered a lecture entitled Mechanistic Aspect of Metal Catalyzed Selective Transformation.

In his lecture, Prof. JIAO introduced the possible mechanisms of selective transformation catalyzed by different transition metals through theoretical simulation. The theoretical results were in accordance with the experimental results.

Prof. JIAO’s research interests include quantum chemistry in catalysts and in catalytic reaction. He has made achievements in reaction mechanisms, aromatic complexes, transition metal complexes, homogeneous catalysis and heterogeneous catalysis and design of new materials. The new standard to judge aromaticity put forward by Prof. JIAO, namely nucleus independent chemical shifts (NICS), has attracted considerable attention in the field of organic chemistry. In 2002 he joined the Institute of Coal Chemistry as Excellent Overseas Talent. In 2006 he got the title of professor of theUniversity of Rostock.
