Prof. HONG Ran from Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry at LICP

Prof. HONG Ran

Prof. HONG Ran from the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry (SIOC) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) visited the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics (LICP) of the CAS on September 30. During his stay, he gave a lecture entitled Bioinspired Cationic Cyclization in Natural Product Synthesis.

In his lecture, Prof. HONG introduced his group’s progress in total organic synthesis in recent years. In particularly, he introduced the development of simple and highly efficient biomimetic synthetic method of stemoamide based on the possible biosynthetic mechanism of cyclization participated by cationic. The work has provided new understanding for the total synthesis of other complicated alkaloids.

Prof. HONG was invited by the Sate Key Laboratory for Oxo Synthesis and Selective Oxidation of the LICP.

About Prof. HONG Ran

Prof. HONG received his bachelor’s degree from the Sichuan University in 1996 and doctor’s degree from the SIOC in 2001. He then did postdoctoral research at the Department of Chemistry, University of Huston and the Department of Chemistry, Brandies University. In 2007 he joined the SIOC . He now works in the CAS Key Laboratory of Synthetic Chemistry and Natural Substances.

His major research interests include biomimetic synthesis of natural products and application of mimetic enzyme catalysts in asymmetric catalysis.
