Prof. XUE Qunji Receives 2011 Sci-tech Award by CMES

Prof. XUE Qunji, member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and director of the academic committee of the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics (LICP) of the CAS, was granted the 2011 Sci-tech Award by the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society (CMES) in Wuhan on November 16, 2011.

The award was presented by LU Yongxiang, honorary director-general of the CMES, and ZHOU Ji, president of the CAE and director-general of the CMES to Prof. XUE in recognition of his remarkable contribution to the sci-tech field.

Prof. XUE is one of the pioneers in materials chemistry and special lubricating materials in China. For 40 years, he has made remarkable achievements in polymer tribology, ceramic tribology and lubrication, nano-materials and tribology, additive tribo-chemistry and design and fabrication of new lubricating materials. His work has promoted the application of space lubricating materials, ultra-low temperature lubricating materials for gears, special lubricating, antifouling and noise-reducing materials used in marine environment, energy-saving lubricating additives and rare earth-containing materials in aeronautics and astronautics.

The sci-tech award of the CMES is established to honor those sci-tech personnel with remarkable contributions in the mechanical area. It is granted every two years and to no more than 2 persons. In 2011 altogether two persons received the awards. Besides Prof. XUE, Prof. SONG Tianhu, deputy director-general of the CMES, received the award as well.

It is also reported that Prof. CHEN Jianmin with the LICP was elected member of the committee of the CMES during the meeting.
