Professor LIU Lei from Tsinghua University Visits LICP

Professor LIU Lei from the Department of Chemistry, Tsinghua University, visited Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics (LICP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), on AUGUST 30. During his visit, Prof. LIU delivered a report entitled Studies on Copper Catalyzed Coupling Reactions of Aliphatic Electrophiles.

In his report, Prof. LIU first introduced the fun and significance of the study on organic synthesis, the circle of new functions, new structures and new reaction of organic synthesis study. Then he explained why his group’s has aimed to synthesize man-made proteins, chose to use transition metal as catalysts and used cross-coupling reaction. Finally, he shared his group’s progress in C-H functionalization, decarboxylative couplings and copper catalyzed coupling reaction of aliphatic electrophiles in recent years.

Professor LIU Lei is delivering a report.

Introduction to Professor LIU Lei:

Professor LIU Lei received his bachelor’s degree from University of Science and Technology of China in 1999 and doctoral degree from Columbia University in 2004. Then he did post-doctoral research in Scripps Research Institute. In 2007 he joined Department of Chemistry of Tsinghua University. He is now the vice-director of Organic Chemistry Institute, Department of Chemistry, Tsinghua University. He received Li Foundation Heritage Prize in 2008, Bayer Investigator title in 2009, “Distinguished Professor” title by Chinese-American Chemistry & Chemical Biology Professors Association (CAPA), “Young Chemist Award” by Chinese Chemical Society and “Thieme Synlett/Synthesis Journal Award” in 2010. His research interests include chemical synthesis and bio-medical application of proteins, catalytic synthesis and application of biologically active small molecules. He has published more than 100 papers in J. Am. Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Chem. Review as the first author or corresponding author.
