WEAR OF ADVANCED MATERIALS Co-complied by LICP Published

WEAR OF ADVANCED MATERIALS, of which the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics (LICP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), contributed the third chapter, was published by the ISTE Ltd and John Wiley & Sons Inc in December, 2011.

The book has 5 chapters and introduces the latest development in wear of advanced materials.

The title of the chapter contributed by the LICP is Resistance to Cavitation Erosion: Material Selection. It was written by Prof. LU Jinjun and Prof. MENG Junhu of the LICP at the invitation of Prof. J. Paulo Davim of the University of Aveiro.

This Chapter introduces the evaluation of cavitation resistance capability of materials and material selection by vibration cavitation testing machine which complies with ASTM G32: Standard. It also compares the cavitation resistance property of metals, ceramics and polymers. It is found that ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (HMWPE), some ceramics and high temperature nickel-base alloy Hastelloy C-276 show excellent cavitation resistance property. The work is of significance for the selection of cavitation resistant materials.
