Production of oleuroprin and total flavonoids from olea europaea leaves begins with LICP technique

The extraction and separation technique of oleuroprin and total flavonoids from olea europaea leaves developed by Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics (LICP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), has been applied in the mass production of oleuroprin and total flavonoids from olea europaea leaves by Longnan Olea Europaea Development Company. The development of the extraction and separation technique is one of the goals listed in the “Extraction and separation technique of oleuroprin and total flavonoids from olea europaea leaves” program undertaken by LICP.

The program has lasted for 3 years and the investment totaled up tp 10,000,000 RMB. A production line which can produce 40 ton/year of oleuroprin and 10 ton/year of total flavonoids has been established. During the implementation of the program, through the close cooperation with the company, a whole set of production technique has been developed and technical standards related to the operation rules, quality, etc. have been established.

Oleuroprin and total flavonoids with high economic value and great market potential have been produced by using abandoned olea europaea leaves as raw materials and macroporous adsorbent resin as the key technique. The sale volume can reach 18,000,000 to 20, 000,000 RMB in a short term with a profit of 5,500,000 to 6,000,000 RMB and about 40, 000, 000 RMB in a long term.

The technological standard for pharmaceuticals research group at CAS Key Laboratory of Chemistry of Northwestern Plant Resources, LICP, has been dedicated to the research and industrialized application of macroporous adsorbent resin. They have successfully applied the technique in the industrialized production of sea buckthorn flavonoids and lycopene.
