2012 Symposium on New Materials and Tribology was held in Lanzhou on November 28. The Symposium was hosted and organized by the State Key Laboratory of Solid Lubrication, Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics (LICP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). More than 150 scholars in tribology and new materials from about 30 institutions of higher education, research institutes and enterprises attended the Symposium.
XUE Qunji, director of the Academic Committee of LICP and member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) was the honorary chair of the Symposium and LIU Weimin, director of the State Key Laboratory of Solid Lubrication of LICP, was the chair of the Symposium.

During the Symposium, XIA Chungu, director of LICP, delivered a speech on behalf of the organizer. WEI Bingbo, member of the CAS and professor at Northwest Polytechnical University, LUO Jianbin, member of the CAS and professor at Tsinghua University, LI Yanrong, member of the CAE and professor at University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, ZHANG Jianchun, professor at Quartermaster Research Institute of General Logistics Department of the CPLA and HAN Enhou, research follow at Institute of Metal Research of CAS, were invited to delivered reports entitled Fast-solidification of Metal Under Ultrasonic Levitation Conditions, Research on Supperlubiicity, Research on Electronic Thin Films, Application of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Composite Materials in Logistics Equipment and Environmental damage of Materials for Nuclear Power Key Components Under Micro-Nano Scale respectively.
