The 16th Representative Assembly of the Gansu Chemical Society (hereinafter referred to as the Society) and Academic Exchange Conference was held in the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics (LICP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), on December 20, 2009 with more than 200 participants. The 26th Annual Meeting of the Gansu Chemical Society and 8th Exchange Meeting on Chemistry Education in Middle Schools of Gansu Province were convened on the same day as well.
The Assembly was attended by Jin Laifu, vice president of the Gansu Association for Science and Technology (hereinafter referred to as the Association), Xue Qunji, vice president of the Association and member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Tu Yongqiang, member of the CAS, Liu Weimin, the 15th director general of the Society and director of the LICP. Jin Laifu delivered the opening address of the Assembly and spoke highly of the accomplishments the Society had achieved and hoped that it could make more contributions to the development of the chemistry discipline in Gansu Province.
On behalf of the 15th board of directors of the Society, Prof. Liu Weimin made the work report, which was deliberated and passed together with the amendment to the statements of the Society, regulations concerning the election and financial matters of the Society during the Assembly. The 16th board of directors of the Society was elected with Prof. Tu Yongqiang of Lanzhou University, member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, elected as the director general. Prof. Zhou Feng of the LICP, was elected as the secretary general. The newly elected director general, Prof. Tu Yongqiang, showed his effort in making the Society better in the future through a series of activities, such as the popularization of scientific knowledge and academic exchanges to make more contributions.
During the Assembly, 7 scholars were invited to give lectures and over 150 papers concerning the chemical education in middle schools were collected, which demonstrated the latest research achievements in chemistry education of Gansu Province.
Founded in 1943, Gansu Chemical Society now has 740 members, most of whom are researchers, technical personnel and teachers with senior professional titles. In 2006, the Society was evaluated as the Advanced Collective Among Scientific Associations in China by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of China and China Association for Science and Technology. In 2006, it won the title of Advanced Collective Among Scientific Associations of Gansu Province and in 2008 it won the title of Advanced Collective for Academic Activities Among Gansu Scientific Associations of Gansu Province. Through the years, the Society has carried out various activities to serve for the society and made prominent contributions to the national rejuvenation through science and technology.
