DICP Researchers Visit LICP

Professor LI Xingwei and Professor DENG Weiqiao from the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (LICP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), visited the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics (LICP) of the CAS on December 14. During their visit, they each delivered a lecture entitled Rhodium- and iridium-mediated C-H activation and O-atom transfer in oxidative and Redox-neutral transformations and Computational simulation and design of dye-sensitized solar cells.

C-C, C-N and C-O bonds can be constructed through metal catalyzed activation of C-H bond. This method has certain advantages, such as cheap raw materials and high selectivity. And it has been widely used in organic synthesis, pharmaceutical development, preparation of materials, etc. In his report, Professor LI introduced his group’s progress in rhodium and iridium catalyzed activation of C-H bond, the role plays by oxygen atom transfer in oxidation, etc.

Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) are low in cost and simple to prepare and are expected to be widely used. In his report, Professor DENG introduced his group’s application of calculated chemistry and computer aided molecular design in the design and synthesis of pure organic dye and DSSCs.

Introduction to Professor LI Xingwei:

Professor LI Xingwei received his bachelor’s degree from the Department of Chemistry at Fudan University in 1996 and doctoral degree from the Department of Chemistry at Yale University in 2005. During his study at Yale University, he received the Richard Wolfgang prize for the best doctoral thesis in chemistry. From 2005 to 2006, he did post-doctoral research at John E. Bercaw laboratory at California Institute of Technology. From 2006 to 2008 he worked at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, as an assistant professor. From 2008 to 2009 he worked at the Scripps Research Institute as an assistant professor. In March, 2012, he joined Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics and received the support from the CAS. His major research interests include metal organic synthetic reactions and their reaction mechanisms and catalytic reactions.

Introduction to Professor DENG Weiqiao:

Professor DENG Weiqiao received his bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree from Lanzhou University, Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the CAS and the Department of Chemistry at California Institute of Technology in 1994, 1997 and 2004 respectively. From 2004 to 2006, he worked at California Institute of Technology as an associate scientific researcher. From 2006 to 2009, he worked at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, as an assistant professor. In August, 2009, he joined Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics and received the support from the CAS. His research interests include simulation and design of conjugated porous polymer, simulation and design of dye-sensitized solar cells.
