Professor Norio Shibata from Nagoya Institute of Technology Visits LICP

Professor Norio Shibata is giving a lecture.

Professor Norio Shibata from Nagoya Institute of Technology visited Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics (LICP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences on May 16. During his visit, he gave a lecture entitled Enantioselective Synthesis of Biologically Active Molecules Having a Trifluoromethylated Quaternary Carbon Center.

In his lecture, Professor Norio Shibata introduced his group’s progress in asymmetric synthesis of bioactive molecules containing trifluoromethyl-bearing quaternary carbon centers, asymmetric synthetic strategies of such compounds, the catalytic routes and mechanisms.

Introduction of Professor Norio Shibata:

Professor Norio Shibata received his PhD in 1993 at Osaka University under the supervision of Prof. Yasuyuki Kita. After working as a postdoctoral fellow in several famous groups, he worked as a lecturer at Toyama Medical & Pharmaceutical University in 1997. He joined Nagoya Institute of Technology in 2003 as an associate professor, and was promoted to a professor in 2008. His research covers (a) Organic Fluorine Chemistry; (b) Thalidomides; (c) Phthalocyanines. He has more than 400 published papers and many of them were published in top journals. He has won many awards. Including 2007 20th Incentive Award in Chemical Society in Japan, 2005 RSC Fluorine Prize and 2004 Incentive Award in Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Japan.
