Professor LIU Shenghzong from DICP Visits LICP

Professor LIU Shengzhong from Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) visited Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics (LICP) of the CAS on May 29. During his visit, he gave a lecture entitled Silicon Thin-film Solar Cells.

With the increasing consumption of non-renewable energy resources, the development of highly efficient and clean energy is urgent and of great significance. Solar energy is a kind of clean energy and how to convert solar energy into electricity is a major challenge faced by the whole world.

Professor LIU Shengzhong is giving a lecture.
Solar cells are devices which convert solar energy into electricity. In his report, Professor LIU introduced the distribution, development trend of solar photovoltaic industry, categories of solar cells and their respective advantages and dis advantages. Then he shared his work experience in BP Solar and United Solar, introduced the studies on solar cells he did when in these two companies, namely studies on thin-film solar energy, ultra-light weight thin-file solar cells, ultra-thin thin film solar cells, etc.

Introduction of Professor LIU Shengzhong:

Professor LIU Shengzhong received his doctor’s degree from Northwestern University, America in 1992. He has since done research at Argonne National Laboratory, BP Solar and United Solar. In 2011 he returned to China and received support from the 1000 Elite Program launched by Chinese government. He now works for DICP and Shaanxi Normal University. His research interests include nano-materials, thin film materials, materials for photovoltaic solar energy, electrochemical deposition of electro-optical thin film, photovolmic technique, etc. Many of his studies have been published in Science, Nature and Angew. Chem..
