Professor LIU Weimin from LICP elected as member of Asia Pacific Academy of Materials

Professor LIU Weimin from the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics (LICP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) was elected as a member of the Asia Pacific Academy of Materials (APAM). He and other 63 scientists from all over the world were elected as members of the APAM during the Asia Pacific Conference on Materials held on October 3, 2013 at Shanghai Jiaotong University.

Professor LIU is a well-known scientist in lubricating materials and technology. He received his Ph.D. degree in lubricating materials and tribology from the LICP in 1990. Then he joined the Laboratory of Solid Lubrication (LSL) of the LICP. From June 1993 to June 1994, he worked as a Visiting Scholar at Pennsylvania State University, USA. He has been the head of the State Key Laboratory of Solid Lubrication since 2000. He served as a vice director of the LICP from 2002 to 2005 and director of the LICP from 2005 to 2012. In 2013, he was elected the member of the CAS.

His group and he have contributed greatly to the successful application of new solid lubricating films, synthetic lubricants and self-lubricating materials for China’s high-tech industries.

APAM is a non-governmental organization established in 1992 in Japan. Its members include outstanding scientists with significant contributions to materials science and technology from the Asia and Pacific region. It aims to promote international cooperation on material science and technology and enhance its development.
