The 6th UK-China Symposium on Tribology was held in the coastal city Southampton, UK, between 31st August and 2nd September 2014. This symposium focused on “Nanomaterials and Tribology”. Altogether 60 scholars from Britain, the Republic of Korea and China attended the Symposium.
During the Symposium, scholars discussed the recent development of tribology from the aspects of biomimetics, lubrication, textured surface, tribofilms and modeling. 16 experts made invited talks. Prof. LIU Weimin, Prof. YAN Fengyuan, Professor ZHOU Feng, Prof. WENG Lijun, and Associate Prof. PU Jibin from the State Key Laboratory of Solid Lubrication of Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics (LICP) gave invited talks entitled Nano-particular lubricants, Interfacial soft matter for friction control and antibiofouling, The sliding tribocorrosion phenomena of some ceramics and metals in seawater, Recent Advances in WS2 Films: for Space Application, and Tribological mechanisms of graphene-based composite films respectively.
The chairmen of the Symposium were Prof. Robert J.K. Wood, Director of nCATS and Chair of UK Tribology, UK, Prof. LIU Weimin, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of Chinese Tribology Council, China and Prof. YAN Xinping, Vice-Chancellor of Wuhan University of Technology (WUT) and Vice-President of Chinese Tribology Council, China.
The UK-China Tribology Symposium is a joint annual event initiated by National Centre for Advanced Tribology at Southampton (nCATS) and the State Key Laboratory of Solid Lubrication of LICP, Chinese Academy of Sciences and co-sponsored by Research Councils UK (RCUK) in 2009.
The annual Tribology Symposium had been held successfully over the past five years. It has provided timely opportunities for researchers in tribology and surface engineering to network with peers from the world leading institutions.
