Prof. Wonwoo Nam from Ewha Womans University at LICP

Prof. Wonwoo Nam from the Ewha Womans University visited the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics (LICP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) on September 24. During his visit, he gave a lecture entitled Biomimetic Metal-Oxygen Intermediates in Dioxygen Activation Chemistry.

In his lecture, Prof. Nam introduced his group’s exploring of metal-oxygen active intermediates from heme iron biomimetic system and non-heme iron biomimetic system. They have used several means to characterize the structure of the intermediates, including single crystal, mass spectrometry, Mossbauer spectroscopy, paramagnetic means and so on. In addition, they have carried out reaction kinetics studies on these intermediates. Their work has provided scientific basis for further understanding the oxygen activation mechanism.

Prof. Wonwoo Nam received his bachelor degree in chemistry from the California State University, Los Angeles, in 1985 and doctoral degree in chemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), in 1990. He then did post-doctoral research at UCLA FROM 1990 to 1991.From 1991 to 1994 he worked at the Hong Ik University and in 1994 he joined the Ewha Womans University. He has published more than 230 papers in Nature, Science, Nature Chemistry, J. Am. Chem. Soc., Acc. Chem. Res. and so on.
