Professor ZHENG Quanshui from Tsinghua University Visits LICP

Professor ZHENG Quanshui from Tsinghua University visited the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences on April 10. During his visit, he delivered a lecture entitled Progress in superlubricity.

Superlubricity is a regime of motion in which friction vanishes or very nearly vanishes. It may occur when two crystalline surfaces slide over each other in dry incommensurate contact. This effect, also called structural lubricity, was suggested in 1991 and verified with great accuracy between two graphite surfaces in 2004.

In his lecture, Prof. ZHENG introduced his work in superlubricity in recent years. He and his co-workers have achieved superlubricity from micro to centimeter scale and under atmospheric environment and at high speed. Their work has been published in PRL and Nature Nanotech in 2012 and 2013.

Professor ZHENG Quanshui is giving e lecture.

Prof. ZHENG received his bachelor’s degree from Jiangxi College of Engineering in 1982 and doctoral degree from Tsinghua University in 1989. In 1993 he joined Tsinghua University. He is the recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and winner of the second prize of the National Natural Science Award (2004).  He has published more than 160 papers (all included in the SCI database), holds 5 authorized invention patents.
