Improving the lubricating performance of Ga-based liquid metal doped by silver

Abstract
Ga-based liquid metal (GLM) is a promising coolant and lubricant in many fields, like electronic equipment and nuclear plants. Enhancing its lubricating properties can help reduce the friction and wear when GLM media is applied in mechanical systems. In this work, the lubricating behaviors of silver-containing GLM alloys prepared by the mechanical grinding method were studied from room temperature (RT) to 600 ?.The results show that Ag actively improves the lubricity of GLM and reduces the wear rate of the steel disc by changing the composition of the friction products. In addition, its lubrication mechanism is also explained.
