Prof. LIU Weimin received his Ph.D. in lubricating materials and tribology from the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics (LICP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1990. After that, he joined the State Key Laboratory of Solid Lubrication (LSL) of the LICP. From June 1993 to June 1994, he worked as a Visiting Scholar at the Pennsylvania State University, USA. In 2013, he was elected the Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 2016, he was elected the Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS). He has served as a vice director of the LICP from 2002 to 2005 and director of the LICP from 2005 to 2012, the President of the Chinese Tribology Institution from 2011 to 2015. Currently, he is the Co-Editor-in-Chief of Tribology International, and Chief Editor of Chinese Journal of Tribology.

Prof. LIU has been working in tribology for over 30 years and made great contributions to developing advanced lubricating materials for China's space, aviation and heavy duty industries in which lubrication is the key to guaranteeing long term service of moving components. Up to now, he has published 4 books, more than 800 papers with citation over 43000 times. He holds 180 Chinese patents and 1 US patent; won 2 National Awards for Natural Sciences (second class) and 3 National Awards for Technological Invention (second class), and won Supreme Achievement Award in Tribology from Chinese Tribology Institution in 2017, and Science and Technology Achievement Award of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society (CMES) in 2019. He was the winner of the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Materials Prize of 2016. His research interests mainly focus on space and aviation lubrication, high performance lubricating materials and tribochemistry.
